Welcome to the Polk County Local Emergency Planning Committee

In Polk County, including citizens, municipalities of Aragon, Cedartown and Rockmart and in partnership with local businesses, we are proactive in planning for an all hazards approach  to emergencies and or disasters. We feel an interagency approach is best for our communities. Working together to mitigate, prepare for, respond to and recovery from emergencies and or disasters is in the best interest of our communities.

The Goal of the Polk County Local Emergency Planning Committee

The goal of the Polk County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) is to protect the community and the environment from hazardous material incidents through planning, preparation, and communication between citizens, business, and government. The Polk County LEPC is also responsible for informing and educating the public about chemical facilities in the community and actions that can be taken in the event of an accidental chemical spill or release into the environment. Lastly, the LEPC will work to assist emergency response agencies in being well prepared to respond to and mitigate emergencies associated with chemical spills or releases within Polk County.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Polk County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) is to promote safety and health in the community through the promotion of hazardous materials awareness and by supporting local planning and response efforts. The LEPC shall encourage cooperative partnerships between the community and industry, and help develop and sponsor educational and training programs relative to hazardous materials preparedness.

The Polk County LEPC Hazardous Materials Contingency Plan is a living document that is routinely reviewed when the situation dictates.

In addition, the LEPC is governed by the adopted bylaws and by the Polk County Board of Commissioners Resolution Number 2022-61 which establishes the Polk County Local Emergency Planning Committee.

If you are a citizen or business in Polk County and would like to join our LEPC, membership is always free. We meet four times per year unless there is a need to hold an additional meeting. Meetings are held at EMA Headquarters located at 55 Clines Ingram Jackson Road Cedartown Georgia 30125.
